Christian Life Coaching verses Secular Life Coaching
Honestly, when I pondered my thoughts on how to best describe the differences between 'Christian' and 'Secular' Life Coaching, I reached for my Bible. The very first chapters I randomly opened, was the book of Job, Chapter 12 and Chapter 13. Immediately upon reading these chapters, I knew! And that in itself, is the difference! I highly do recommend that you read these chapters of Job.
A quick peek into the American Heritage Dictionary, the first definition of secular is:
Worldly rather than spiritual.
Adear friend and associate made a suggestion to me, in hopes his suggestion would help in promoting my coaching business. Yes, it is truly wonderful to have people in your life that care about you and want success and good things for you. Sometimes their suggestions can be very beneficial and you need to take heed. Other times however, you may need to stand firm in your own convictions, and go where the Spirit leads you. His suggestion, perhaps I might should change the verbiage in my title, from 'Christian Life Coach', to 'Spiritual Life Coach'. As he stated, it does seem to be a term that is working for many others, less offensive to the Secular world.
As a Christian, it is never my intent to be offensive, judgmental or condemning to anyone, regardless of their own personal beliefs and our differences. In fact, as a Christian, it is quite the opposite, I am to be one with the heart of Love, Kindness and Forgiveness. In regards to using the term, 'Spiritual' instead of 'Christian', I certainly do understand the reason many may prefer the 'Spiritual' aspect of wording. It is a bit more widely accepted in the secular world. Many of those who do not believe in Christ our Lord, do believe in something. There are many that do believe we are of spirit, but our spirits never leave this world and are not connected to a higher spirit and power. For myself personally, to utilize any term other than 'Christian', for the sake of becoming more widely accepted and welcomed into the secular world, defiles the purpose of who I am. It is not by my own wisdom in which I am, it is only through The Power, The Glory and The Grace, gifted to me through the Trinity of my Lord Father, My Lord Jesus, My Lord the Holy Spirit that brings me to seek the guidance and counsel of the 'One' far greater in wisdom than any being that has ever existed or will ever exist.
As a Certified Christian Life Coach, I am certainly trained, able and willing to coach those with secular beliefs. One of the most important key elements in coaching is to discover who you are. Just as I encourage you, to embrace who you are, discover who you are, I am pleased to be who I am. I am a Christian, that is who I am, it is what makes me, me. It is by the Love, the Glory, the Grace of Jesus Christ, that brought me to finally love me, accept me, and understand. He and He alone can make me worthy, and he has done so by His forgiving grace. I am going to keep the term, 'Christian' as I believe in what it stands for. I believe and trust that the Lord will stand by me on this one.
